Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

February is Cancer Prevention Month, and Shrader & Associates, LLP will campaign alongside many health groups to equip individuals and health providers with the information they need to be proactive. About one-third of cancer deaths in the United States are preventable when lifestyle and screening recommendations are followed, according to the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Knowledge about carcinogens, including asbestos, is another way for people to protect themselves, Shrader & Associates attorney Ross Stomel said.

“Screening for cancer can make the difference, because many people develop a cancer long before they notice any symptoms,” Stomel said. “The mesothelioma patients we represent often develop the disease over decades.”

Stomel said almost all cases of mesothelioma are caused by exposure to asbestos, a material that is dangerous because of its long, thin fibers that can embed and cause tumors in lungs’ lining. Mesothelioma, which is frequently fatal, can be nearly prevented when necessary precautions are taken to avoid exposure to asbestos.

In this case, manufacturers and employers play a large role in prevention, Stomel said. Manufactures have a responsibility to protect consumers of their products, and bosses to protect their employees. Negligence of these responsibilities can—and has—resulted in mesothelioma for consumers and our workers.

“We are especially passionate about protecting mesothelioma patients because we believe that this is a preventable cancer,” Stomel said. “Myself and the other attorneys at Shrader & Associates believe we can empower those whose health was unnecessarily risked.”

Anyone exposed to asbestos has a right to pursue legal action. Anyone who feels his or her safety may have been risked should accept a free complimentary legal consultation to learn more about their options.

Shrader & Associates can be reached by phone at (888) 637-6236 or online at http://www.shraderlaw.com.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) February 19, 2012

“Champion Realty’s expansion into the Raleigh Commercial Real Estate market was driven by real estate investor and homeowner requests. They talked, we listened and responded”, stated Rodney McNabb, the Designated Broker for Champion Realty. “Champion Realty is excited to be a part of the Greater Triangle Area community and we are very encouraged by the welcome and interest we have received from real estate investors and other small businesses”.

Champion Realty’s Real Estate division has served the Triangle’s residential real estate market, and the addition of Commercial Real Estate in Raleigh NC was a natural progression. “We are focusing on small business, which is a lost niche that has been forgotten by some of the larger players in the commercial real estate industry. When I say ‘small business,’ I am referring to individual leases that range from $ 500 to $ 10,000 per month, and sales that range from $ 100,000 to $ 2.5 million.”

Champion Realty is a full service commercial real estate agency based in Raleigh, NC, operating in markets throughout the Greater Triangle Area. “Since our company was founded,” McNabb says, “it has been our goal to assemble a group of skilled professionals who take pride in our work, enjoy working together, and share our success with our family and friends. The result is a unique work environment where people come together and revel in working hard to deliver superior results that are specifically molded to each client’s need.” After speaking with some of Champion Realty’s employees as well as clients, his goals have definitely become a reality.

Champion’s commercial real estate services include sales, landlord representation, tenant representation and property management. “We have the technological resources in place not only to allow us to do our jobs right, but to help us exceed our services beyond that of our competition.”

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 21, 2007

RadioFN host Michael Blackstone provides an insightful interview with industry mining experts on Canada’s Gold Country. David Bond, a well known award winning mining journalist, Geological Engineer Yves Gagnon (P. Eng.) and Abcourt Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ABI) (OTC:ABMBF) President Renaud Hinse (P. Eng.) provide RadioFN with details on the prevalence of mineralization along the Cadillac fault in the prolific Val d’Or (Valley of Gold) District of Quebec. The Val d’Or district is considered by many industry professionals as one of the most mining-friendly districts in North America. Abcourt’s key projects are located in this area and consist of past producing silver/zinc mine (Abcourt-Barvue mine) and a past producing gold mine (Elder gold mine).

Also mentioned in the segment is Abcourt’s recent feasibility report on the reopening of their 100% owned Abcourt-Barvue Silver/Zinc mine in the Val d’Or district. The RadioFN interview reveals the potential to at least double the existing resources is excellent since the deposit is only explored to 300 meters (1,000 feet) as it shares the same geological model as existing mines in the area that are down several thousand feet. The company is debt free and has managed to maintain and upgrade their properties, equipment, and resources during the hiatus all without diluting the share structure.

Abcourt’s other prize asset is their 100% interest in the past producing (1947 – 1966) Elder gold mine located 60 miles from their silver/zinc project in Northwestern Quebec along the Cadillac fault.

Excerpts from interview:

David Bond, Journalist: You know I’m paying really close attention to Abcourt because we know the ore body is a known quantity, except that it can only get bigger as prices improve or as more exploration work is done. The metallurgy is off the shelf.”

RadioFN Michael Blackstone: So essentially going down to that depth there’s tremendous possibility, or outstanding, or enormous potential for adding to known resources. Yves Gagnon, P. Eng.: You’re right, it’s a possibility to double or triple or whatever, if you compared ourselves to the depth that other mines went down to.”

Also mentioned in the segment are Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. whom are exploiting the nearby the Laronde Mine at about 10,000 feet, Richmont Mines Inc., Breakwater Resources Ltd. and Xstrata Plc

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

Recent research by Ponemon Institute has shown that the average cost of cybercrime has increase by 56%. The complex and dynamic nature of the current risk landscape is causing organizations to put a greater focus on training of its workforce. A current study by Global Knowledge cites that managers believe certified information security professionals are 80% more effective at their jobs post certification. Further, studies show that investing in certifications can yield higher return on investment (ROI).

According to a study by IBM, “When business partners are grouped by the number of certified individuals on staff, those with higher levels of certifications exhibit measurably higher revenue per certified individual, and the value of each additional certification improves team performance.” IBM estimates that every $ 1 invested in learning and certifications averages a return in revenue of $ 345. In addition to an increase in revenue, certifications improve team performance by 11%.

The need for having a highly skilled information security team has never been greater. Jay Bavisi, President and Co-Founder of EC-Council, stated “The information security industry has changed tremendously in the past few years. This year alone, large corporations and governments around the world have suffered devastating and extremely costly cyber attacks. With the need to fulfill the IS industry’s growing needs for strong leadership, the Chief Information Security Officer Certification (C|CISO) was designed to complement the use of high-end technology with empowered and experienced executives who are ready to direct the information security team in today’s complex environment.”

EC-Council’s Chief Information Security Officer Certification prepares Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) to defend their organizations from security breaches by actively improving the current information technology security solutions, enforcing regulatory requirements and aligning IS with the strategic needs and goals of their organization. This skill set enables the CISO to be the best guardian of their organization’s digital assets. For more information about C|CISO, please visit: http://www.eccouncil.org/ciso.

According to SC Magazine companies that employ a CISO to lead an effective IS program are 10 times less likely to experience costly security breaches. Today’s risk landscape makes it almost impossible to protect against data loss and theft without the skills of a highly trained IS leader, like a CISO. Certifications provide the CISO with the tools needed to effectively protect the organization from cybercrime. To view additional CISO resources, please click this link.

It recognizes an individual’s accumulated skills in developing and executing an information security management strategy in alignment with organization goals. Applicants can take advantage of the Grandfather Provision until September 2012. It will also tackle pressing textile industry production concerns such as water and air emissions, energy use and its impact on climate change, waste production, and the widespread use of toxic inputs. Change is vital given the huge and unsustainable economic, environmental, and social costs of current textile production methods and a projected global population of over nine billion by 2050, all needing clothing and other textiles.

A focus on textile sustainability enables the entire value chain to find cost savings and production efficiencies and pass those savings on to customers while reducing the impact of textile production on people and the environment.

The change will be announced at Textile Exchange’s Global Sustainable Textiles Conference, with approximately 300 textile industry-related representatives from 29 countries already registered to attend. TE’s global conference includes representatives from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, adidas, Anvil Knitwear, C&A, Disney, Eileen Fisher, Gap, H&M, Lenzing, LL Bean, Nike, Nordstrom, Patagonia, Puma, REI, Target, Walmart, and Williams-Sonoma. Topics to be covered include sustainable textile processing, eco-indexing, traceability and transparency, organic fiber production, and environmental footprinting.

In November, TE will roll out a dynamic website (TextileExchange.org) which will dramatically improve the ability of producers, manufacturers, brands and retailers, funders, and the general public to interact, find important information, locate supply chain partners, and improve traceability, transparency, and integrity in the textile industry supply chain. The website – created by Silicon Valley’s SourceN (http://www.sourcen.com), an award-winning digital agency that has also created websites for Apple, MTV, and Time, Inc. – aims to drive efficiency, cost savings, and visibility in the global textile value chain.

WHEN: October 27-29, 2010.

WHERE: Sentry Centers, 730 Third Avenue (between E. 45th and E. 46th streets), New York City, 10017. Please RSVP BY October 21 or you will not be able to enter the meeting.

WHO: To RSVP, contact Sandra Marquardt, 301-592-0077 or smarquardt(at)onthemarkpr(dot)com. For conference questions, contact Heather Hocker, 806.787.0948 or heather(at)organicexchange(dot)org.

Gland, Switzerland (PRWEB) February 10, 2012

Gibbons: Love is in the air for these tree-dwelling primates, but for the Western Hoolock Gibbon (Hoolock hoolock) there are greater concerns than finding the perfect mate. According the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the Western Hoolock Gibbon is listed as Endangered, as there is reason to believe the species has declined by at least 50% over the past three generations. In the upcoming 40 years, this decline is likely to reach similar proportions due to continuing habitat loss.

Swans: Known around the world as a universal symbol for love, swans form a monogamous bond with their mate that often lasts for life. The Swan Goose (Anser cygnoides), native to the border area between Russia, Mongolia and mainland China, is listed as Vulnerable because of its decreasing population trend in recent years, which is attributed to drought and considerable pressure from habitat loss.

Wolves: These furry mammals are howling in love—for their life-long partner. Wolves are the largest member of the dog family and very family-oriented; their pack consists of a male, female and their offspring. The Red Wolf (Canis rufus) is currently listed as Critically Endangered, and in the 1980’s was deemed Extinct in the Wild. Very little is known about Red Wolf because the species’ range was severely reduced by the time scientific investigations began. Given their wide historical distribution, Red Wolves probably utilized a large suite of habitat types across North America at one time. Hybridization with coyotes is the primary threat to the species persistence in the wild.

French Angelfish: Rarely caught without their mate by their side, French Angelfish (Pomacanthus paru) will fight for love. Pairs of French Angelfish are strongly territorial, with both members often vigorously defending their areas against neighboring pairs. This species of mate-for-life fish are common in shallow rocky and coral reefs, and are found from Florida and the Bahamas to Brazil and straggling north to New York in the Gulf Stream. Currently, French Angelfish are listed as Least Concern with their population remaining stable—the only threat being collection for aquarium trade.

Albatrosses: Love has no boundaries for albatrosses, a species which will cover lengthy distances to return to the same place and the same partner to breed. The Tristan Albatross (Diomedea dabbenena) qualifies as Critically Endangered, owing to its extremely small breeding range and a projected rapid population decline over the next 70 years. The Tristan Albatross breeding populations are essentially restricted to Gough Island and the annual breeding population is estimated to be 2,700 pairs, equivalent to a total population of 11,300 birds for the species which breeds once every two years. Population declines are a consequence of very low adult survival owing to accidental deaths from long line fisheries and low fledging success due to predators.

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a life-long partner, still searching for that special someone, or are a confirmed Valentine’s skeptic, join us in our mission to keep these monogamous marvels (and all their polygamous fellow species) thriving. Happy Valentine’s Day from IUCN!

The IUCN Red List threat categories

The IUCN Red List threat categories are as follows, in descending order of threat:

Extinct or Extinct in the Wild

Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable: species threatened with global extinction;

Near Threatened: species close to the threatened thresholds or that would be threatened without ongoing specific conservation measures;

Least Concern: species evaluated with a lower risk of extinction;

Data Deficient: no assessment because of insufficient data.

Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct): this is not a new Red List category, but is a flag developed to identify those Critically Endangered species that are in all probability already Extinct but for which confirmation is required, for example, through more extensive surveys being carried out and failing to find any individuals.

About the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ (or the IUCN Red List) is the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global conservation status of plant, fungi and animal species. It is based on an objective system for assessing the risk of extinction of a species should no conservation action be taken.

Species are assigned to one of eight categories of threat based on whether they meet criteria linked to population trend, population size and structure and geographic range. Species listed as Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable are collectively described as ‘Threatened’.

The IUCN Red List is not just a register of names and associated threat categories. It is a rich compendium of information on the threats to the species, their ecological requirements, where they live, and information on conservation actions that can be used to reduce or prevent extinctions.

The IUCN Red List is a joint effort between IUCN and its Species Survival Commission, working with the Red List partners BirdLife International; Botanic Gardens Conservation International; Conservation International; NatureServe; Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; Sapienza University of Rome; Texas A&M University; Wildscreen; and Zoological Society of London.

Woodstock, VT (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Europe is a substantial market for food microbiology testing. With a population of over 500 million, the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) conducted an estimated 275 million microbiology food safety tests in 2011, according to Food Micro, Sixth Edition: Food Microbiology Testing in Europe (Food Micro-6), a new market report from Strategic Consulting, Inc. In comparison, there were 213 million such tests conducted in the US in 2010.

According to Tom Weschler, president of Strategic Consulting and lead author of Food Micro-6, “Food safety microbiology testing in the EU will approach 350 million total tests in 2016, at which point the market should top $ 1 billion in value.” Given these numbers and other factors, the European food safety testing market must be examined and understood, Weschler says. “A resurgence in public awareness in the wake of the 2011 E. coli outbreak in Germany, and the continued focus of the European Food Safety Authority on EU-wide systems, could drive test volumes even higher.”

Food Micro-6 is the first definitive report to focus exclusively on the European food microbiology testing market, and reviews the methods, technologies, companies, regulations and trends shaping food safety testing in Europe.

In preparing Food Micro-6, Strategic Consulting conducted more than 175 detailed interviews in 11 European countries accounting for 77% of all agricultural/food value-added in the EU. This primary research with food-processing plants throughout Europe provides new, detailed data on European food safety testing including test volumes, methods used for routine and pathogen testing, and costs per test performed. Differences in testing practices are analyzed for the meat, dairy, fruit/vegetable, and processed food segments. Variations within countries are outlined, and expected changes in future testing practices are discussed.

“Routine” microbiology tests used in the EU to indicate the presence of microorganisms in the food processing plant or food product include total bacteria, E. coli, Staphylococcus, yeast and molds. In 2011, these routine tests numbered 225.4 million. The balance of food microbiology tests in Europe were 49.9 million “pathogen” tests, which look for specific microbes such as Salmonella, Listeria, L. mono, Campylobacter, and E. coli O157.

Food Micro—6 also profiles 18 leading diagnostic companies in the food safety testing market including 3M, BioControl, bioMérieux, Bio-Rad, DuPont Qualicon, Life Technologies, Merck Millipore, Neogen, QIAGEN, Roka Bioscience, and Thermo Fisher.

Food Micro—6 is a companion report to Food Micro, Fifth Edition: Microbiology Testing in the U.S. Food Industry (Food Micro—5), published by SCI in 2011, which reviews the current practices and changes impacting food safety testing at 9,350 US food processing plants.

Strategic Consulting has published six reports to date reviewing quality and safety testing in the food industry. The food sector represents almost 50% of the total industrial microbiology testing market, and is more than double the size of any other industrial segment including pharmaceutical, personal care products, beverage, environmental, and industrial processes. Strategic Consulting market research reports are widely accepted by leading diagnostic manufacturers and investors as highly credible analyses of the industry.
